It's cute when a sports gambling ad pretends it's something the whole family can do, as if it's not the crippling habit of the twenty most beleagued young men you know

It's really distressing to me to see anyone this happy about being allowed to murder other human beings. Grotesque.

I bought a cheap exercise bike in Octoberish because I'm a wuss and don't like running in the cold and dark in the mornings. Wasn't sure if I'd use it. Now I like it so much, I'm not sure I want to go back to running. Better on the joints, burns equivalent calories, and I can read while doing it. 😄

Paris spring sunrise showing out this morning.
A view from my home office window. There are various shrubs and trees, all in bloom, and behind them a sunrise starts yellow, then gradients to orange, pink, red, and purple against a backdrop of textured stratus clouds

My lukewarm #NBA take is that yes, the Spurs can win it all this year. They're that good already, and they've proven particularly effective against the Thunder.

My hottest food take, particularly in Paris, is that brioche buns are a terrible choice for burgers. They're too flaky and dry, so they lack structural integrity and disintegrate instantly. The bun of choice for a country where people eat their burgers with a fork and knife like perverts.

The whole thing about Democrats searching for a winning message for the midterms is infuriating because it is staring them in the face: Rule of Law — People who do illegal shit should face consequences. For insider trading. For illegal wars. For ignoring court orders. For being a pedophile.

Spain invested heavily in clean energy over the last 6 years. Now, as gas prices rise, Spain has some of the lowest electricity costs on the continent. In August 2025, Spain used zero coal — just 10 years ago it powered 25% of the country. This is what energy independence actually looks like. 🌎

A thought of "separating the art from the artist": It's a way to approach the work as an audience member, taking it entirely on its own terms. Just the art, regardless of what the artist might be like. It's not about money. If you buy it and the artist gets paid, you haven't separated shit.

Universal Basic Income works. It works extremely well because what people need is cash, trust, and dignity, not paternalistic bureaucratic hoops to jump through to exist. And yes we can afford it because the lack of it is very costly. UBI should be seen as an investment with a large expected return.

illustration- the xenomorph from the 70's horror movie alien by Ridley Scott is at the center. surrounding her is a frame of strange wires, alien technology, xenomorph tails, and two face huggers.
Illustration of the show twin peaks. The setting is inside the black lodge, next to a lamp post with a strong light source is a statue, two hands in a strange formation & a cup of coffee turned upside down pouring out. Underneath is dale cooper walking next to a mirror image of himself. The doppelgänger is looking at the viewer with one shining eye. At the top left and bottom right corners are a symbol of two triangles, representing the two mountain peaks of twin peaks
